DUNLOP HISTORY SINCE 1888
1888
Dunlop is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high performance tires. Started in Belfast, Ireland in 1888, with an idea that forever changed the way the world rides. John Boyd Dunlop invented the first practical Pneumatic Tires for his child’s tricycle and developed them for use in cycle racing.
1890
Dunlop immediately patented his idea and started to develop his invention into a commercial venture, founding what quickly became known as the Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co. Ltd. In 1890, Dunlop opened its first tire plant in Dublin, Ireland and three years later, its first tire factory in mainland Europe.
1913
Dunlop produced its first automobile tires in Japan in 1913 and Sumitomo Rubber was established shortly thereafter, in 1917.
1935
Started production of Dunlop Motorcycle Tires.
1988
Tyremart Inc. imported Dunlop tires, becoming a pioneer in the Philippine tire imports Industry up to the present.
